You may be the most cautious driver on the road. Even the most careful driver, however, cannot prevent their car from getting a flat tire. With rough road conditions like potholes, sharp objects like nails, and other factors, a flat tire can happen in just a moment. While you cannot always avert getting a flat tire, you can acquire the knowledge and skill to change your own tire with these helpful tips.
Ready Your Car
When you are changing a flat tire on your car, you need to make sure that your vehicle is in a safe place. It is best that your car is parked on a flat surface and not on an incline. If you are on the side of the road, then try to get your car as far away from traffic as possible.
Loosen the Car’s Lug Nuts
Once your car is on even ground, the next thing you need to do is to remove the hub cap, so you can access the lug nuts. With a lug wrench, you will loosen the lug nuts on the tire. Make sure that you merely loosen the lug nuts, rather than remove them from the tire completely.
Jacking Up the Car
The next step you will have to do is to jack up the car. Every car is a bit different, so it may be best to adhere to the owner’s manual which will specify exactly where to place the jack. This is especially true if this is your first time to jack up a car.
Taking Off the Flat Tire
Once you have jacked up the car, you can remove the lug nuts. Once the lug nuts have been removed you can take off the flat tire. Be sure to place the loose lug nuts in a safe place, so you do not lose them.

Putting on the Spare
When you have removed the flat, it is time to replace it with the spare tire. Carefully, lineup the spare tire to the lug-nut holes. You will then put the lug nuts back on and tighten them. Next, the jack will be lowered so that the entire car is on ground level. With the lug wrench, ensure that the lug nuts are securely tightened onto the spare tire, and there you go. You are ready to get back on the road and on with your day.
